Nestled in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, Mana village is popularly known as the Last Village of India "on the Indian side of the Indo-Tibetan border but no more because the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) displayed a signboard stating it as The First Indian Village, Mana".

The Uttarakhand government has declared Mana as a "Tourism Village". Mana Village is well-known for its close proximity to the sacred sanctuary of Badrinath, which is about 3 km away. The village is reachable by road and is located at a height of roughly 3,200 metres above sea level. On their way to Badrinath, many pilgrims choose to take a stop at Mana.

Mana Village is considered one of the oldest inhabited villages in India and has a long history. Due to its connection to the Mahabharata era, Mana village has great religious significance for Hindus. The five Pandavas are thought to have traveled through Mana Village on their way to heaven.

Additionally, the area has a stone bridge known as the "Bheema Pul" that spans the Saraswati River and is said to have been built by Bheema so that his wife Draupadi can cross the river without difficulty.

Places to visit in Mana:

Neelkanth Peak- Also known as the Queen of Garwal is 6,597 m high providing mesmerizing views of nearby peaks including one of the Char Dhams of Uttarakhand, Badrinath.

Bheema Pul- According to legend, it was built by Bhim, one of the Pandavas, to cross the river Sarasvati during their exile. The bridge is still intact and is a popular tourist spot.

Tapt Kund - Very popular site among devotees as it is believed that this kund has healing properties and can cure skin diseases after taking a deep.

Vyasa Gufa- Vyasa Gufa has the shrine of the great Maharishi Vyas which is believed to be 5000 years old. This gufa is where the many great saints have written epic literature and hence, to enjoy the positive environment you can visit here.

Vasudhara Falls- Situated at a distance of 5 km from the village and approximately 9 km from Badrinath, Vasudhara Falls is a beautiful waterfall that cascades down from a height of 122 meters making it a must-visit site to witness when in Mana.

Ganesha Gufa- Ganesh Gufa is a small cave located near Mana village, which is believed to be the place where Lord Ganesha wrote the epic poem of Mahabharata as dictated by Vyas Rishi.

How to Reach Mana:

The distance between Mana village and Badrinath town is roughly 3 kilometers. Dehradun, which is around 320 kilometers away, is where the closest airport is located. About 300 km away Rishikesh is the closest railway station. To go to Mana village from Badrinath, one can use a taxi or a shared vehicle as well. Hence, reaching India's first village is pretty easy and convenient.

Best Time to Visit Mana:

May to October are the ideal months to visit Mana village because the weather is favorable and hiking pathways are open throughout this time. Please note, since the area is vulnerable to landslides and flash floods, the monsoon season, which lasts from July to September, should be avoided.
