Indian Domestic Air Travel Records All Time High Passengers In A Single Day, Crossed Pre Covid Records

India's domestic aviation industry has surpassed pre-Covid average levels and achieved new heights. Over 4,56,000 people traveled on 2,978 flights on Sunday, setting an all-time high record for passengers in a single day.

The Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia tweeted with joy expressing that the Indian civil aviation sector is breaking new records every day and the nation's soaring economy and wealth are evidenced by the surging number of domestic air travelers.

As we have seen in the reports from earlier months the Indian aviation sector is growing and now stable making some or the other records in January, February, March, or April.

The Ministry reported that there were around 9,13,000 passengers and 5,947 airplane movements on Sunday. Prior to Covid, there were 3,98,579 domestic passengers on average every day when there was no restriction and the whole world was open for everyone.

According to Passenger Revenue Kilometres (PRK), domestic air traffic in India has been steadily rising and was only 2.2% behind pre-pandemic levels as of February. The domestic passenger market in India also outperformed the other domestic markets, including the domestic markets in the US, China, and Japan, in terms of the Passenger Load Factor (PLF) statistic.

India has been the topmost domestic marketplace as per PLF for the previous four months, with PLFS of:

81.6 % in February
85.2 % in January
88.9 % in December 2022, and
87.9 % in November 2022

India Aviation Record

According to the most recent IATA study, which was published in February of this year, domestic air travel in India has significantly improved, reaching 85.7% of pre-COVID levels in 2022. In December 2022, the aviation industry was still recovering.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) reported that domestic flight numbers rose from 8.4 crore in 2021 and 6.3 crore in 2020 to 12.3 crore in 2022. Additionally, it was predicted that in 2023, the figure would reach between 14.5 and 15 crores by December as people are traveling without any restrictions and exploring places all around and preferring to travel with this one of the safest modes of travel.
